Marist for Life's mission

Marist for Life has a three-fold purpose: Prayer, education and outreach.  We invite the entire Marist community to join us as we strive to uphold the dignity of human life.

Prayer

Prayer is essential in the pro-life movement. Our meetings always begin with Prayer. We attend Mass monthly in the chapel at Marist. A few years ago we began meeting in the chapel each day during 40 Days for Life to pray the devotional followed by a decade of the Rosary. At least once each 40 Days campaign we gather as a club outside of Planned Parenthood to pray as well.

Education

We understand that in the pro-life movement it is really important to be educated ourselves on life issues and then to educate others in our community. We try to learn during the school year about the ethical implications of abortion, physician-assisted suicide and euthanasia.

Students for Life of America conducts occasional training sessions for the club. Members are encouraged to attend Camp Joshua in Spring Break, a pro-life leadership training camp for ages 16 and up. We attend the annual Oregon Right to Life conference each year in April to educate ourselves and be encouraged to help others witness to the beauty of life. This year a group of Marist for Life students attended the Students for Life regional leadership workshop as well.

Marist for Life juniors and seniors share a pro-life presentation each Spring to the Sophomore classes and are encouraged to share a similar presentation with the Catholic middle school students.

Outreach

The school year begins with a Back to School Diaper Drive in benefit of First Way. We participate in 40 Days for Life vigils. Marist students are also encouraged to pray and offer resources outside of Planned Parenthood as Christian Service Experience to the disadvantaged.
